Welcome to WordPress. This is your first post. Edit or delete it, then start blogging!
And while you’re at it, figure out why this post entry displays (it did) into a scrolling frame, because it look(ed) really tacky.
Ok, so I have now fixed that. Briefly comparing word press to NucleusCMS that I have used for the last 5 years…
On the user side, really good impressions after 12 hours. On the dev side, it’s a bit to get your head around it at first, but it’s like that for most new applications you try out. Could some of my clients learn to use this? The control panel is bound to be confusing for some if not most.
Widgets seem to be the equivalent of what most systems call blocks. Calling them widgets alludes that they do something. So far as yet, I’ve only seen them display blocks. Mac widgets do something, Google widgets do things, so where’s the widgetness? Whatever..
Nested categories is good, multiple category posts is nice and I’m getting fond of the WYSIWIG editor. I do like the ability to create and edit Pages. I didn’t realise Word Press did this. You can set up pages in Nucleus, but not on the fly like this. Extra points for that.
I’ve tried two different social network logins, RPX and Gigya. I’m not thrilled with either yet as they don’t seem to offer quick login to comment. So I’ll have to keep looking.
The template system, again, this is the part to get your head around and understand. I chose a more advanced template for the basis, so we’ll see how this goes. Outside of that, setup took minimal time. It’s the digging for templates and plugins that behave as you desire that is the time consuming issue.
Well, a bit later now, I am really appreciating the power that WP gives. Fantastic for more web savvy peeps, but I know my technically challenged users will still be getting Nucleus for simplicity sake.
