“We Keep Getting Hacked”

Recently we were asked by a current client to have a chat with one of the their associates, who was not a customer of ours. It seems that they had been battling with repeated “hackings” of their website and their existing “techie” wanted to charge them £500 to fix the problem.

We had a brief look and quickly deduced that the site was hosted on Windows based servers, not our specialty. However, we could do a website revamp AND transfer them to LAMP based systems for the same cost. The terms were agreed and we made it a priority to get this client’s new website up and running as soon as possible in order to close the security holes in their existing website. Understanding that they would also lose current Windows hosting subscription, we offered a year’s free hosting with us so they won’t be paying for both the windows server and the new account.

Your neighbourhood techie may be able to start you out with a scripted website, but do you know if he will/can keep it secure and how much he’ll charge to carry on repairing his own security flaws? In order to prevent CMS security issues we often apply software security patches at no charge to standard CMS sites that we maintain. It doesn’t guarantee that security issues won’t come up, but it lessens the chance considerably.

If your site is being “hacked” regularly, send it to Room 101, get in touch today for a free consultation.
